The High Line starts on the corner of Washington St. and Gansevoort St. and goes all the way up to 34th. It is a total of 1.45 miles long and runs through the heart of Chelsea.

This rail line originally transported good to and from Manhattan's largest industrial district. In 1980, the line saw the last trains to use it's tracks. For the next 26 years, the area fell into disrepair and was just sad and abandoned. There was always debate over what to do with it and finally a plan was decided upon. Over the next 8 years they would slowly convert the abandoned rail line into a park for public use. To keep the authenticity of the rail, the park planners decided to keep the train tracks in place, so throughout the park, they are visable both in the pathway and through the foliage.
