Edgar Allen Poe's Cottage
One of the greatest gems tucked away in the Bronx is the final home of famous writer, Edgar Allen Poe. Known by many as Poe's cottage, this tiny house was inhabited by Poe and his wife from May 1846 until Poe's death in October 1849. Although very humble, it was in this cottage that Poe wrote some of his most famous works including "The Cask of Amontillado," "The Bells," and "Annabel Lee." It is also believed that Poe's last short story, "Landor's Cottage," was based off his little abode. The cottage itself was moved from its original place by Kingsbridge Road and is now located in a little park by Fordham Road.
It was so fun to see Poe's cottage! The cottage is open to visitors from Thursday to Sunday and only costs 5$ for adults and 3$ for students. We didn't go inside the cottage, but it was still honestly one of my favorite stops in the Bronx and is actually located across the street from the LDS Bronx chapel.
Poe's cottage is a must-see for anyone spending some time in New York City!
