Catch the Flava in Harlem
Struggling to survive in this New York heat? Catch the flava is what is also known as a delicious helado cart and what seemed to be very common among all of New York. As I have ventured off in this area these little treasures were literally on every block located in the Harlem area on Malcom X street (also known as lenox street, 122nd). As observed, the children of this neighborhood had a hay day getting these cool treats after school.
Not only are the people that serve you sweet but so is the taste of the helado! These tasty treats are only one dollars worth, and I can promise that they will not disappoint. The delicioso helado is the spanish word for delicious ice cream, yet this cold treat tastes more like an Italian ice/sorbet/ slushy all combined into a little dixie cup. For me it was the perfect amount to cool me off and it was an easy trade for a dollar. A majority of the carts hold up to 6 different flavors, the flavors vary with each cart. It is understood that the most common and popular flavor is the coconut, while there are others such as tamarind, cherry, mango, lime and more!
