Sakura Park

Sakura Park became the title of this magnificent cherry blossomed park thanks to the Japanese word Sakura, meaning "cherry blossom". As part of what was called the "Hudson-Fulton Celebration in the year of 1090 these cherry trees were presented to New York as a gift from the Committee of Japanese Residents. There were up to 2,000 cherry blossom trees sent and planted all throughout the city and especially in the Morning Side Heights Area. This park is located right next to the International House and has been said to be over a wonderful convenience to the residents. (Riverside Dr., Claremont Ave. To W. 122 St.)

Talk about your happy place, this park is full of beautiful cherry trees that are even more exquisite during the spring season. It is a great area to sit back on a bench and read a book, or even play frisbee with friends. For those who need time to relax and enjoy the shade and great outdoors, this seems like the best place to be in the Morning Heights Area. Although this neighborhood isn't as loud as it is in the city, this park ads more of a relaxing vibe within the area. For those of you who are touring this area it is a great spot to take a seat and enjoy the outdoors because it is right at the center of the International House, Grant's Tomb and Riverside Cathedral.
