Battery Park

25 acres amongst the wildness of downtown manhattan. The southern part of the city faces the harbour. You may ask why it is named 'battery' park, well, that is indeed because of the artillery batteries used for defense in the early years of new york, or so they say.

The Dutch began their settlement in this area in 1625. Now, the park is a popular place to walk, enjoy the view, relax and visit monuments honoring soldiers, inventors and many others. Performances often take place in this park in the summer months, and it is the perfect location to run, watch the sunset and gather with friends. Battery Park serves as a departure for boat and ferrys running to various islands and parts of New York. A popular night time activity is taking the ferry to one of the islands, you get a beautiful view of the city.

You can take a 4 or 5 straight to Battery Park if living in the Upper East side.
