Dividing and conquering

Updated May 6: Based on your feedback to this proposal, assignments are found here.

Here is my proposal for how we divide up the city for our multi-media backpack journalism projects. I'm open for suggestions on how to change these, but in the meantime I'd like for you to claim a neighborhood by commenting on the class Facebook page, under the link to this post.. We can discuss during our group activity.

  1. Central Park & Upper East Side (includes Museum Row, Carnegie Hill, 92Y, and Manhattan YSA)

  2. Harlem (includes Apollo Theater, Sylvia's, Schomburg Center, Harlem YSA)

  3. Bronx-Yankee Stadium

  4. Morningside Heights, Upper West Side, Lincoln Square (includes Temple, International House, Columbia)

  5. Chelsea and Greenwich Village (includes High Line, NYU, Washington Square, Chelsea Market)

  6. Chinatown, Tribeca, and SoHo

  7. Midtown

  8. Lower East Side (includes City Hall, historic churches, Park Row)

  9. Brooklyn (includes Brooklyn Bridge, Greenwood Cemetery and Coney Island)

  10. Wall Street, Battery Park, World Trade Center

  11. Liberty and Ellis Islands

One clarification. I still want everyone to do all the self-guided walking tours, although you should tour your neighborhood before the assigned date.
