Walking tour: Greenwood Cemetery
The original Great Silent Majority can be found here. Opened in 1838, it is the last resting place for many famous New Yorkers. You can find grave sights for famous publishers such as Horace Greeley (we saw his statue next to City Hall) and James Gordon Bennett (whose bells did not ring for us in Herald Square).
You can use a downloadable map to find them yourself, or take a two hour free tour if you make an advance reservation by calling 718-210-3073 or emailing events@green-wood.com
To get to there, take the 4 train to Union Square and switch to the R train and take it to Prospect Avenue in Brooklyn. The cemetery is a five minute walk from the Prospect Ave subway station.
Say hello to Horace Greeley for me.
