Wired profiles changes at NYT
Wired magazine this month features the New York Times' efforts to innovate for the digital age. As mentioned in this space last month, the Times has been working to adopt a digital-first workflow and increase digital revenue. So far, the newspaper is on the right trajectory and digital subscriptions are up.
Meanwhile, the Times offered buy-outs to many staff members in order to hire digital-ready journalists. According to Wired: hundreds in the newsroom have been trained to shoot video, speak on camera and "all the other skills necessary to produce journalism in the years to come."
Says executive editor Dean Baquet: "If you buy that our future is the phone, and you buy that that means our future is going to be more visual than it's been in the past, then New York Times journalists have to be comfortable with video."
