Lecture on social media memes
Popular viral content like memes permeate social media. But do we take memes seriously? An upcoming lecture addresses how memes strategically use art, symbolism, and spirituality to attract attention and to help the audience feel emotion.
Dr. Scott Church, assistant professor in the BYU School of Communications will present the Raymond E. and Ida Lee Beckham Lecture on Thursday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. in 321 Maeser Building (that's the old lecture hall).
The title of his lecture is "The art of mass communication: The sublime, ineffable, and spiritual elements of memes."
And just for reading this blog post, you now know that I'll offer extra credit for attending this lecture. Please send me an email, letting me know that you attended and what you thought of the lecture.
