Truth in the Age of Twitter

Social media has been used to report on and promote news for years now, but in this tech-savvy age of journalism, how can we know if what we see on Twitter is true? And perhaps more importantly, how can we keep up with the twenty-four-hours news cycle while staying as accurate as possible?

Please plan to attend a talk by Matthew Winkler, editor-in-chief emeritus of Bloomberg News, at noon on Wednesday, March 22 in 238 HRCB (Kennedy Center).

Winkler founded Bloomberg News with Michael Bloomberg in 1990. Today, Bloomberg News, which includes 2,500 editors and reporters in 150 bureaus serving print and broadcast media throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia, produces more than 5,000 stories daily on the economy, companies, governments, financial and commodity markets as well the arts and sports. Bloomberg News under Winkler’s leadership received more than 800 awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting.

The talk is co-sponsored by the BYU Kennedy Center for International Studies and our BYU chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists.
